Four Tips for Greater Speech Engagement and Excitement - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

Four Tips for Greater Speech Engagement and Excitement - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career In an age where we have the ability to switch between information and entertainment constantly in the palm of our hands, keeping the average adult’s attention for more than five minutes is a serious undertaking. I’m often asked by aspiring professional speakers as well as people who just want to give great talks how they should structure a talk. Inevitably, almost all of them look at a talk from the wrong perspectiveâ€"theirs. You do not build a strong personal brand as a speaker by focusing on yourself. It’s not about you Once you understand that a talk or presentation is in no way about you, you’ll begin to focus on what is importantâ€"your audience. Imagine yourself sitting in the audience.   Would you want to hear about your topic? Is it interesting? In many instances, you’ll have to deliver on a topic that may not seem extremely fun or exciting. I recently gave a talk on Big Data for Meeting Planners. Unlike social media, the concept of Big Data does not sound fun and exciting to most non-techie audience. However, I was able to make the two hour talk extremely interactive and fun for the audience using the tips outlined below. Increase Audience Engagement with These Four Tips Create your presentation with two to three takeaways in mind. Know what information your audience needs to walk away with for your talk to be considered a success. The average listener will forget nearly everything you say. However, if you reinforce two to three key points, there is a much better chance of their retaining information. Incorporate audience activities and/or participation. Not only will creative audience participation activities make the presentation more interactive, but it will also help your audience retain information if the activities are designed to reinforce your key points. Activities can refresh your audience, acting as mini breaks. You’ll find that, after a fun activity, the audience is more attentive. When possible, take questions throughout the presentation versus at the end. If you’re speaking to a group of less than 75, it should be fairly manageable to take several breaks to answer questions. First, this allows audience members to ask great questions while you are focusing on that particular topic in the presentation. Second, it will allow you the opportunity to shift your presentation, if necessary, based on the types of questions that you’re receiving. You may find that you need to spend much less time speaking about X than you planned, but need expound on Y. If you receive too many questions at one point, you can always defer to the next question break. Remember, it’s not about you. Give serious thought to the stories you plan to incorporate into your talk. If you’re going to use a story about yourself, ask yourself it if is 100% necessary to the talk. If so, try to make it a story where you made a mistake and learned something versus the story about your being a super-hero who saved the day. Whatever information, stories, or case studies you incorporate should reinforce your two to three key points.

5 Tips To Create a Compelling Business Story - Classy Career Girl

5 Tips To Create a Compelling Business Story Once upon a time What a powerful starter. We grow up with stories powerful narratives that were, at one point, experienced by a human being, whether fictional or real. For many of us, stories are as close as we will come to experiencing something similar to this person. There are lessons, triumphs, failures, and a lot of emotions.?Even for business-minded entrepreneurs, our stories are our biggest connector, and yet so many of us shy away from telling them! We have a tendency to play down what we have experienced  and talk up the experiences of others instead of our own. Funny how that works, huh? Writing and telling stories can work for us in a variety of ways. You can step up as an influencer in your career, or build your own business and brand. Everyone from beginner to expert can use their story to connect with their market. Not only can stories help connect you with your audience, but they can also help you connect with business partners, potential co-creators, and investors. If you are on the fence about using your story to connect with your audience because you don’t think it will work for you, I invite you to think of how your own story could impact someone else. 5 Tips to Create a Compelling Business Story A couple of weekends ago I had the opportunity to attend a powerful conference in Philadelphia focused on the science and spirit of human motivation. The connecting piece to every lecture, workshop, and keynote was one thing,  stories. Powerful  thought and emotion connecting stories of heartbreak, triumph, growth, failure, and every step in between. It dawned on me listening to one particular lecture, that as one woman amongst a thousand, I was having incredible shifts both in my mind and body. Then I turned and looked around to the audience, and saw faces twisting, aching, laughing, leaning in, tearing up, and reacting with their own truth in connecting with the speakers stories. We love a story. A really well told, honest, open story. Whether fiction or non-fiction, stories have a way of painting more than just what happened. Stories impact us with the deeper context of the person who went through it, their humility, and ultimately, their breakthroughs. [RELATED: From Corporate to Farmstead Entrepreneur: A Conversation with Rachael Tuller] Think about when you’re reading the latest blog on CCG  or even any of the hack-it business or life articles on the web. The articles that you get hooked on the fastest and leave you with a lasting impression will always include a story. If you are looking to connect with your audience, you tell what you have experienced. This is what keeps us connected to other people at a primal level, and makes your writing more about the audience than you. It may feel awkward or selfish to focus on yourself while you are writing, but its required when  you write authentically. You trust the audience to take it in and that is all. Your readers will  process and naturally connect with what you say in their own way. But, that part is really none of your business; your mission is to tell it. So, how do you go about crafting a powerful business story? First, think back to an experience that matches the theme or topic of what you are discussing or writing about. 1. HONESTY Write not only the facts  but the feeling and emotion behind the story. Focus in on how the people in the story felt. What was seen, felt or heard? 2. BE CONCISE Move your audience through the story without spending too much time setting the context for what you want them to get out of it. The more precise your story, the easier your readers will catch on with what you want them to walk away with. 3. BE AUTHENTIC Use your own words when creating your business story. I can’t stress this enough. Audiences can sense when you are saying something in a tone or manner that doesn’t match how you talk. Your audience wants  to feel connected with you. Use your voice to project the story, and don’t be afraid to throw in a couple of phrases or words that  keep it light and real. Project your personality and be you. 4. THE LESSON Focus your message on the problem and the lesson what made you realize what you had to do in the end?   what was the conclusion of the story. 5. BELIEVE Don’t overthink your story. Remember your audience will take what they want from your  story. Sometimes they will be  sad  by it, and sometimes they will say “I SO needed that.” Your story is powerful in so many ways. When you put it out there, you are lifting up others and also serving to grow yourself and your business. Don’t wait to start writing start right now. Cheers to you and your business story, Lady Boss!

Using the Efficient Writing Style to Write a Leagl Resume

Using the Efficient Writing Style to Write a Leagl ResumeWriting a leagl resume should be easy if you are familiar with the letter writing guide and have some idea of what to include. This is a way to get your qualifications noticed. It is a long list of facts and details about yourself and your qualifications that you should show to a potential employer. After all, your qualifications and skills are what make you one of the best in your field.A professional written resume isn't just meant to get you a job it's also to let your potential employer know that you are looking for a job. It should be brief but informative. A poorly written one will only waste your time and waste his as well. There are many ways to get a good cover letter and there are also many ways to create a good resume but not all of them are created equal. So how do you know which one is right for you?To start with you need to choose a reputable company to do your resume. This means they will not use poor quality sof tware that is not produced by professionals. Do not get lured by lower prices to get yourself into this kind of a deal.Good companies will offer a full money back guarantee on their services and will give you the guarantee in writing. You should also avoid companies that do not come with a return policy. This can be dangerous, since you could lose your money in the process. After choosing the best company to handle your resume, you need to write the best possible cover letter. It needs to capture the attention of the reader and the prospective employer. It needs to appeal to the reader and satisfy the employer. You should read a cover letter from the perspective of the reader and not the viewpoint of the employer. The job of the cover letter is to get the person reading it to take you seriously. The problem with a cover letter is that it usually has very little to do with the company you are applying for. While a good cover letter will land you an interview, it does not mean that you should go all out and go in and force yourself in front of the person reviewing your cover letter. That is the wrong thing to do. It will cause you to look unprofessional and not build any relationships with people. You should use a professional that has written a cover letter for them. It is best to get a resume and cover letter done at the same time. This will allow you to understand how to better structure your resume so that it will be read more like a business proposal. The bottom line is that it needs to be professional and do not include any personal information.A good writer can help you with both a resume and cover letter. When it comes to getting a good job, it is important to hire a qualified person to take care of it for you. This way you do not have to worry about making a mistake and you get a written report that contains all the information about your qualifications.
